vSphere 4 Active/Active iSCSI

With vSphere 4 iSCSI is now able to bind 2 network adapters via a single vSwitch with two port groups, or bind 2 vSwitches with a single adapter and port group each to the built in software iSCSI initiator. This provides an active/active configuration rather than active/passive and doubles the bandwidth available for storage traffic. Continue reading

Stop Android Calendar only showing recent events

I only noticed this today but my Android phone’s calendar, which is synched with Google, was only showing the last 4 weeks worth of events despite Google calendar having events dating back several years. The solution comes thanks to wagebo at Google Code’s Android issues forum. Continue reading

Automatic IIS log removal

Having seen the data used on the C:\ drive of a number of Windows Small Business Server 2008 machines slowly spiral out of control, reducing the free space to only 1-2Gb on 50Gb+ drives I started to suspect something strange was happening. With the use of a handy tool named Tree Size which is available as a free download, I soon discovered it was the IIS logs that had been hogging all the space. IIS itself, performs no log rotation. The only way to control them is with the use of some VBS script. Continue reading

Mail Enable Active Directory Groups for Exchange 2007/2010

Unlike Exchange 2003, Active Directory distribution groups do not, by default, appear within Exchange or outlook for users to send mail to all members of that group. This proved particularly confusing in my case when making my first Active Directory 2003 to 2008 and Exchange 2003 to 2007 migration…although the groups in AD appeared to migrate as expected none of my users could send mail to them. The solution? Mail enable the groups. Continue reading
